One of the most serious deals on the retail market in Sofia in recent years has received the "green light" from the antimonopoly regulator. The chain "Magazin 345" (or simply "345") will disappear as a brand after its acquisition by the company behind the competitor "DAR". The deal was announced in the summer, and it depended on the decision of the Commission for the Protection of Competition. "345", which operates only in Sofia, today has more stores - 16, but the period of expansion for it is far in the past. This is also reflected in the financial results, with revenues in 2023 (about 21 million leva, almost without profit) being almost half those in 2009. A large part of its stores are open 24 hours a day, and this allows it to maintain positions even near larger competitors. "DAR" - the chain of the main company "Nikon-NK" in 1996, has 12 stores in the capital, a warehouse and a unit for the production, distribution and sale of frozen foods. The buyer's trend is of continuous growth in revenues - in 2023 they were almost 53 million leva with a profit of 1.8 million leva. According to the preliminary agreement between the two companies, immediately after the transfer of the shares, two of the "345" stores will close for renovation, within the framework of which they will be rebranded as "DAR". "345" OOD is the owner of 3 of its locations, and the parties to the transaction have agreed that these stores will be removed from the acquired company, transferred to the ownership of a third party and leased to "DAR". In its market research, the CPC has determined that even the consolidated group with 28 retail outlets will have no more than a 20% market share in terms of number of stores and a maximum of 5% share in terms of net sales revenue. This is far behind the leading companies in the market such as Billa, Fantastico, Lidl, Kaufland and T-Market.
