Agropolychim has signed a contract for the construction of a new modern calcium nitrate production plant. The investment worth over EUR 40 million marks the beginning of the actual implementation of the company's announced strategic investment program for the expansion and diversification of the product portfolio worth a total of over EUR 250 million. Construction activities begin immediately, with all the necessary technological equipment already delivered, Agropolychim announced. The project includes the reconstruction of existing infrastructure and the construction of a new production line with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons of granular water-soluble calcium nitrate, as well as a new logistics base for packaging, storage and shipping of the finished product. Along with the production of calcium nitrate, the new installation will provide the opportunity to produce a wide range of liquid fertilizers with calcium, sulfur, magnesium, potassium and microelements. Agropolychim's main commercial focus will be on export-oriented markets, primarily in Southern and Western Europe, but the product will also be offered to Bulgarian agricultural producers. Calcium nitrate is widely used in greenhouse and field production of crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and strawberries, where calcium deficiency is a common problem. Calcium nitrate is a highly hygroscopic product, which means that it has a high tendency to absorb moisture from the air. The new Agropolychim unit will be equipped with a state-of-the-art automated FFS (Form, Fill, and Seal) packaging line in 25-kilogram bags, which will undergo air extraction, will be reliably sealed and will meet all European standards for durability and protection. The packaged bags will be automatically stacked on pallets of up to 1200 kg and will be stretched, with the finished product stored in an automated rack warehouse with a capacity of 8100 pallet spaces. The production of calcium nitrate at Agropolychim will be entirely based on low-carbon (blue) ammonia, produced with carbon capture - a technology that significantly reduces overall greenhouse gas emissions. The steam and electricity used will also be predominantly from renewable sources.
