The construction of a parallel main gas pipeline from The Romanian border to Turkey and Greece was launched a few days ago, at a point, situated at some 2.5 km from the city of Kardam. The pipeline will go parallel to the existing one, thus doubling the capacity of the route. According to the Bulgargas SPJSC - Sofia project the costs are estimated at USD 100 million and more. The first 47-km stage of the construction should be completed for 10 months by Gasstroymontzh JSC.

Reinforced concrete consortium would be the best option for Danube Bridge II, said the Executive Director of Moststroy Rumen Yovchev yesterday. Two of the spans would provide the shipping ensuring dimensions of 150m width and 10m height. Other options including steel structure, would be more costly. The selected location supposes a bridge length of 1200 metres. Bulgaria will have to built a 1300 metre railway ramp and 350 metre roadway. 16 companies and public organizations, including the largest Bulgarian construction companies such as Moststroy JSC, Dunavski Dragazhen Fleet JSC, Vidapatstroy and Glavbolgarstroy, established yesterday the Vidamost consortium which will participate in tender for the construction of Danube Bridge II. Bulbank JSC will be the servicing bank and State Insurance Institute JSC will insure all the construction activities.

A partnership Vidamost was established for the construction of the second Danube bridge. The partnership includes 15 companies among which Alexander Gibb & Partners - Great Britain, Bulbank JSC, DZI JSC, Glavbolgarstroy JSC, Vidapatstroy JSC, Moststroy JSC, Transproekt JSC. Chairmen of the partnership were elected Mr. Bojidar Danev - Chairman of the Bulgarian Industrial Association, and Mr. Georgi Linkov, lecturer at the University for Architecture, Construction and Geodesy.

On July 13.2000 took place the 8th General Meeting of the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA). There was selected a Board of Management of 84 people in which are presented regional organizations, branch unions, small and medium companies. Sofia City Court registered changes for Glavbolgarstroy - JSC: Mr. Evgeni Chachev was erased as a member of the Board of Directors; Mr. George Durlev was erased as Executive Director of the company; the new Board of Directors includes Mr. Dimitar Petrov, Mr. Evgeni Marinov, Mr. Kiril Stefanov, Mr. Bojidar Janakiev, Mr. Simeon Peshov, Mr. Stanoi Milachkov, Mr. Sashko Mitov and Mr. George Dulev.

Glavbolgarstroy was compelled to replace its builders in Moscow with local workers, declared the Director of Rousse-based company Mr. George Tomov. The number of the personnel in Moscow is reduced from 750 over the last year to 100 workers now.

A meat market-place will be opened in Sofia within a year, was announced by the Director of Slatina Bulgarplod JSC Mr. Alexander Yotsev. Yesterday (September 19) EBRD confirmed the financing of the project with USD 2.3 million. The new equipment will be the most modern one in Central and Eastern Europe. It will be built on the territory of the market-place in Slatina. The start of the construction works is appointed for October 4. Glavbolgarstroy was chosen for executor through competition.

The Chairman of the Bulgarian Industrial Association Mr. Bojidar Danev opened the meeting and presented the joint project BIA-SIMEST for establishing of joint ventures. The Deputy-minister of Regional Development and Public Utilities Mr. Todor Vachkov presented to the participants the national construction program by 2006, the development of the national transport infrastructure, the program for construction of investment projects, including European transport corridors A representative of the Ministry of Transport and Communication introduced the Bulgarian and Italian companies with the new laws in the sector of transport, the possibilities for joint ventures in the frames of the Stability Pact, the opportunities of the ISPA program gives. During the meeting individual conversations among representatives of Bulgarian and Italian construction companies took place. The Bulgarian Construction Chamber - a member of BIA, Glavbolgarstroy, Moststroy, Montaji presented to the Italian partners their projects and abilities.

The National gas supply company Bulgargas is realizing its investment programme for this year and by December 15 it will be completed, was reported from the head-office of the company. BGN 105 million are spent from the total sum of BGN 153 million. The investment programme is fixed in the agreement signed between Bulgargas and the foreign trade company of Gasprom - Gasexport. it is for a USD 47 million loan, granted by Gasprombank. The execution of the three-year investment programme will give an opportunity to Bulgargas from the end of 2001 to transit 17 billion cubic metres natural gas annually through the State's territory to Turkay, Greece and Macedonia.

The Minister of Agriculture and Forests Mr. Ventsislav Vurbanov and the Mayor of Sofia Mr. Stefan Sofiyanski opened the construction works of the marketplace for meat, birds and fish on the territory of Slatina-Bulgarplod. According to the General Director of Glavbolgarstroy JSC Mr. Simeon Peshov they will end in six months. The realization of the project was possible after the EBRD and the Government of Germany took part in it. Glavbolgarstroy JSC was elected for executor of the project through competition. The construction is financed with a credit from EBRD in the amount of USD 2. 823 million and USD 36 666 private funds of Slatina Bulgarplod JSC.

6 foreign consortiums will take part in the auction for construction and renew of terminal 2A of Bourgas port. These are the Japanese Taisei corporation, Penta ocean and Kudjima corporation, in which sub-executor is the Bulgarian company Glavbolgarstroy, Valast nedam, Holland, the Turkish STI and the french Dumez. A commission of experts of the Ministry of Transport and Communications will class the offers of the consortiums and the approved one will be sent to the creditor - Japan bank for international cooperation, in order to be approved again. The construction of the terminal is a part of the general plan for development of Bourgas port and it will start in the beginning of the next year. The bank grants JPY 14.312 billion.

The plant Stilmed, Sofia will produce 7 000 t aluminum profiles annually. The company was opened on November 14 by the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Petar Zhotev and the Minister of Economy and Finance of Greece Mr. Janos Papandoniu. The plant was built last year by the Greek group Viohalko and Euromerchant Bolkan fund that invested USD 12.5 million. It is expected in 2001 to be invested in the company other USD 4 million. 75 per cent of the production is for export for Central and Eastern Europe, Germany, Holland. At the moment in Stilmed are working 200 Bulgarian specialists. At a Bulgarian-Greek business forum that took place on November 14 became clear thet Greek companies invested over USD 3000 for the period 1992-October, 2000.

The Minister Mr. Evgeni Chachev and the first Secretary of the Delegation of the European Union Commission Mr. Kristos Makridi will sign a contract for the rehabilitation of the international road E-85 and the segment Harmanli-Svilengrad. The project is financed in accordance with PHARE programme with EUR 11.8 million and IA Putishta with EUR 787 000. The executor of the object is Glavbolgarstroy E-85 and the construction supervision will be realized by the international consulting company Luise Berger and the Danish road Administration. For 2 years will be reconstructed 40 km road covering,13 bridges and 16 culverts at the direction of the European corridor 4.

The world famous chain Hilton broke its practice to be responsible only for the management of the objects that possesses and invested USD 4 million in the construction of a hotel in Sofia. The construction of the 5-star hotel Hilton in Sofia will start in the end of November 1998. The realization of the project costs totally USD 46.7 million. Hilton-Sofia is managed by the Company for luxury hotels JSC.
