| Machine building: The upward trend continues
More revenue, new markets and increased exports - that's what Bulgarian machine construction looks like in the past year. Preliminary data show that companies in the economy of the country have earned more than BGN 10 billion in 2017, which is just over 10% of gross domestic product. According to the national statistics, the exports of the companies in the branch are about BGN 9 billion last year, which is 20% of the realized output abroad of the companies from the manufacturing industry. More than 60% of total revenues are realized by the top 40 companies in the industry. The good news is that the upward trend, which has been going on for several years, continues in the first half of 2018. "Bulgarian machine-building production is being sold in countries from all continents, ZMM - Sliven, for example, exporting machines in 56 countries. The company has established itself as a global manufacturer of universal lathes and heavy duty CNC lathes, for which demand is steadily increasing," said Iliya Keleshev, President of the Branch Chamber. The number of people employed in the sector is growing - in 2017 they were 129,370 with just over 100,000 people four years ago. The biggest increase was in the manufacture of automobiles, parts of vehicles and vehicles (30,863 people). Employed in companies with more than 250 employees are 68,105 (52.64% of the total). The large enterprises are 72 out of a total of 3702, outlines the overall picture Iliya Keleshev. According to data from the Branch Chamber of Mechanical Engineering, the highest increase was recorded in the production of car parts (by more than 10% in recent years), as well as in military production, which in turn places many suppliers and subcontractors on orders. Although without a car assembly plant, 170 companies are operating in Bulgaria producing components for the industry and most of them are planning to expand their operations. This is stated in a SeeNews analysis of the automotive industry in the region. The products include a very wide range - from high-tech such as microelectronics, air conditioning systems and instrument panels to aluminum parts, cables, rubber and plastic products, upholstery, etc. Employees are over 40,000, according to data from the Automobile Cluster and the Ministry of Economy in 2017. The total revenues of the companies in the sector are EUR 3.5 billion, of which 90% export to global automobile markets. According to Keleshev, for the first time since 2015, there is also a revival in shipbuilding and ship repair. The growth rates of machinery and equipment are kept. There is also a rise in metal products. For many years, the hydraulic companies Caproni and M+S Hydraulic in Kazanlak, HES - Yambol, Badestnost Chirpan, have been working well for new products and expanding their markets. M+S Hydraulic produces about 8% of the world's hydromotors. At a modern level, keeping the pace with the leading companies in the field, is the pumps production of Caproni. Many of the casting companies are well developed, said Keleshev. Source: Capital (24.10.2018) |
